Arcade Snacks of Auburn, Massachusetts has just recalled its 15-ounce bags of candy corn, as reported by USA Today.

The FDA has observed that this is because there may have been unreported eggs added. Experts warn that eating the company’s candy corn this Halloween might cause those who are sensitive to eggs to have potentially fatal allergic reactions.

The sweet treat is frequently sold in two New England states and is packaged in a transparent plastic bottle bearing the following information: The optimal buy date is March 8, 2023, and the UPC is 018586001144.

The candy corn was distributed in both Massachusetts and Connecticut at the following locations, according to Arcade Snacks: Johnson Roadside Farm Market in Swansea, MA; Donelan’s Supermarkets in MA; Fieldstone Farm Market in Marion, MA; Foodies in MA; Windfall Market in Falmouth, MA; and lastly, Highland Park Market in Glastonbury, CT.

No illnesses related to the recall have been recorded as of the original recall announcement on September 23. The distribution of the egg-containing product under packaging that did not explicitly state that it included egg led to the formal notification being made.

Egg allergies can cause “hives, nasal congestion, runny nose and sneezing, cramps, nausea and vomiting, and coughing, wheezing, chest tightness or shortness of breath,” according to the Mayo Clinic.

Experts also point out that severe allergic responses to anything, even eggs, can result in anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal situation that calls for an urgent dosage of epinephrine (adrenaline) and a trip to the emergency department. After being exposed to eggs, it might happen quickly and send a person into shock.
