In a post on his Truth Social website on Friday, Trump referred to Chao McConnell’s wife as “China-loving Coco Chow,” using a racial epithet. In the same tweet, he said that McConnell had a “death desire” for supporting “Democrat-sponsored measures.”

Every Republican should condemn this, according to former McConnell adviser Scott Jennings, who stated on CNN, “This is awful, it’s over the pale.”

During the Trump administration, Alyssa Farah Griffin, the director of communications for the White House, tweeted that Trump is “At this point, there is no attempt to disguise the bigotry. Just abhorrent.”

It is never OK to be racist, said Sen. Rick Scott of Florida in response to Trump’s remarks, although Scott didn’t publicly call Trump out.

“I believe that while speaking publicly, you should always use caution. You want to be sure to include everyone, “Scott stated on Sunday’s CNN.

On CBS, Scott said that Trump has a “nickname” for each and every one of them. “He nicknames individuals. He must have a pet name for me. Alright. So you can inquire as to what his nicknames represent.”

Jennings said that he was not pleased with Scott’s remarks on the subject.

On Sunday, the conservative-leaning editorial page of The Wall Street Journal weighed in, stating that Trump’s “death wish” remarks were considerably more harsh than usual and “deserve to be denounced.”

Trump’s spokesman Taylor Budowich defended him in a statement, according to the Washington Post, claiming that McConnell “clearly has a political death wish for himself and the Republican Party.”

Chao was born in Taiwan and served as Trump’s secretary of transportation throughout his tenure in office. Following the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, she resigned.

Trump’s remarks have received no response from McConnell’s staff.
