Ex officer sentenced to 30 months in prison
Former Minneapolis police officer, Thomas Lane, who was the officer that held George Floyd‘s legs during the tragic incident as he gasped for air while being held down, has been sentenced to prison.

On May 25 2020, it was Mr Lane‘s first week as a full time officer when the incident occurred near a South Minneapolis convenience store.
All four officers who were present at the incident were found guilty with various crimes.
Mr Chauvin, the officer who knelt on George Floyd’s neck is sentenced to 21 years in prison after he was found guilty of murdering Mr Floyd and violating his rights.
In case of Mr Lane, prosecutors had asked the judge to sentence Mr Lane to around five to six years in prison which is less than other cases as a result of charging him with fewer crimes.
Mr Lane pleaded guilty in May and is expected to be sentenced in the month of September of 2022. Mr Lane‘s lawyers and the state prosecutors have agreed upon a sentence of 3 years in prison but they are still waiting for the judge‘s final decision.
