The guy who attacked and sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl last week as she went home from school is being sought by Chicago police.
According to a statement from the police, the attack took place Thursday about 3:30 p.m. in the Washington Park area.
Police said the offender, who was described as a guy between the ages of 45 and 60, took the girl into an alley and sexually assaulted her after grabbing her from behind and placing his palm over her mouth.
Police said the youngster was able to release herself and flee. According to authorities, the individual is sought for for kidnapping and severe sexual assault.
For information that results in an arrest, community activists have offered a reward of $4,000 each.
One of the victims of the assault attended the K–8 Dulles Elementary School. In a letter to parents, the principal of the school stated that a member of the school community was engaged in the crime but declined to provide further information out of respect for the victim’s privacy.
The message continued, “We also want to highlight once more that we take all safety issues very seriously,” and that the school was collaborating with the Chicago police and the school district security office on extra safety measures.
In addition, the school posted a notice on social media asking parents to pick up their children at the front doors and advising pupils to walk in groups, put down their phones, and pay attention to their surroundings.
According to Chicago police, no arrests had been made as of Monday, and investigators were still looking into the matter.
